ROUNDS 86 & 87
An emergency in the mines sends our intrepid heroes on a life-or-death mission to save the lives of trapped miners! But the situation is more dire than they could ever know, with their opposing team coming to finish the job...

Surface-side, meanwhile, there's a change of pace - the two teams are being forced to work together in order to safely deliver forty heads of bison to the Ranch: this is not a job for the faint of heart, however, and the bison they're herding don't always take well to being bossed around!

Current Round Teams

ROUND 87
  • Isamu Fuwa

  • Yua Yaiba

  • Inara Serra

  • Sara Lance

  • Misty Day

  • Quicksword Irene

  • ROUND 87: Bring the Bison Home

Location/s: The south-eastern region of Midpoint arena, to the Ranch

The team's goal is to round up and drive a herd of forty bison to the Ranch. Three trained cattle dogs will be provided upon departure from Midpoint Saloon, by Soap. Success is determined by how many of the bison remain at the end of the drive. Failing to reach the Ranch in five days or less, losing more than twenty cattle, or a majority of the team dying, will result in team failure.

Starting Jail: The Lucky Break (north)

    Provided Intel:
  • A map of three safe routes to lead the herd through the arena.
  • A list of known threats, which includes coyote, rattlesnakes, scorpions, numerous otherwise-unmarked bison within the herd.
  • Names and favourite places to be scratched of the three cattle dogs.

Suggested Supplies (note: you will have to source these yourselves):
  • Rope
  • Guns and ammunition
  • Extra water and rations
  • Binoculars (rare)

Quick question about logistics - since there appears to be only one team for this one, are the obstacles going to be mod-run, or under our control?

Is the briefing specific as to what species of rattlers are out there, or does it just give a generic "caution: noisy death noodles"?

(Not asking you to actually name the snakes, just if they are specified.)

It'll just say "rattlesnakes", not the specific breed or even where to find them.

As a follow-up, is there any specific information on species and breeding grounds available in the library? Or is it largely general there, too?

There's probably a book or two in the library on "local wildlife" with details on the kinds of snakes around.

The most common rattlesnake is the prairie rattlesnake, with a smattering of diamondback rattlesnake. There won't be anything on breeding grounds, but if Sara wants to go hunting between missions she can certainly go looking!

She doesn't actually want snakes! She's looking at threat mitigation - if they know where they are, they could try to plan their route to avoid them, and if they know what they are, they have a better chance of treating any snakebites.

That makes a lot more sense than looking for baby rattlers. I was admittedly wondering why. (My brain works weird, what can I say.)

In general, the most desert-y areas are the ones with bigger rattler populations. Mountains and areas of scrub forest will have less. Those are more likely to have coyotes, though, so. Pick your poison!

It's a little unclear what's meant by 'otherwise-unmarked bison in the herd". Does that mean they're only responsible for the marked bison? Are the bison marked?

Nah, the bison aren't marked at all, and they're responsible for all of them. The "otherwise-unmarked bison" are just the trouble-making bison :D Hence why they're listed in the "threats" section.

It will be listed just that vaguely in the briefing, too, so feel free to be surprised :B
